CNx download level…

… it’s over nine thousand 700! We hit seven hundred downloads of the latest version of CNExtend tonight, which was released a week ago. With 29 thousand existing nations/players, I figure the absolute upper limit is 30% being Firefox users or 8700 players.

If we’re going to be conservative and say that 200 of those installs are duplicate installs (one user with multiple computers), then those 500 users are a little over 5% of the maximum install base. That might not seem like a huge amount at first, but reaching 100% would be nearly impossible given that many people find out about the extension through alliance forums or friends, which excludes casual players and those who don’t join alliances. Among those, many won’t bother to install for various reasons, whether concern about using a third party extension to already having an existing script or extension.

Given all that, the real maximum is probably in the 2000-3000 range, and to achieve that I’d probably have to implement some more interesting features (or finish a few existing ones).

Update: We passed 820 today, and they’re still trickling in. There should be an update pretty soon with the finished layout editor, depending on how fast I can finish the related documentation.

1.3.7 Maintenance and Tournament Edition fixes

Really quick TL:DR on this update:

  • Tournament edition now works for improvements and wonders.  Extended view in TE is still broken but it’ll take a little more time to fix.
  • Extended view in the standard version is now updated and working properly.
  • Various bug fixes and code cleanup.  All were minor, the largest one being that if an unpredictable change occurred after deleting an improvement, it wouldn’t notify you to view your nation again.

It’s not quite a feature, but it is an important development:  the code is now hosted at Google Code.  To mess with and build your version of the extension, check it out of SVN, install ANT, and run ANT in the root directory.  That will automatically build an XPI file that you can install.  The debugging directory has a file and instructions you can use if you want to debug code, and if you have bugs you want to fix or features you want to put in, let me know and I’ll review it and add it to the next release.  There are at least two obvious outstanding issues, so have at it for your chance at fame and glory =P.
